West Pinto Trail - Trail Maintenance - between Miami & Superior
 |
 |
VOAZ volunteers will clear corridor on the West Pinto Trail in the eastern Superstition Wilderness. At this event, we will hike in from the Rogers Trough trailhead on the western end of the trail. Lack of maintenance has made the trail a bit hard to use and we'll be trimming, pruning & grubbing plants, repairing cairns & a bit of tread work.

VOAZ has been asked to work on the West Pinto Trail (212) in the Superstition Wilderness. This trail has not seen maintenance in quite a while and at this event, volunteers will open the corridor and perform basic tread maintenance from the Rodgers Trough Trailhead ( 4700')
NOTE: Volunteers will be hiking (with personal items for the day and tools) a minimum of 2+ miles and up to 5+ miles on unmaintained, overgrown wilderness trails. The work will include pruning and grubbing plants from the trail corridor, cairn construction and some basic tread repair. The elevations of the work area range from 4700' to 5400'.
This area has a wide variety of desert and riparian plants and is the home of many historic springs. We'll (car) camp at the Rogers Trough Trailhead (no permanent facilities at this site). Because this event is in the wilderness area, numbers are restricted.
The roads to the trailhead require high clearance vehicles (4wd nice but not always necessary).
The trailhead is about 2 hours from the VOAZ office. Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast will be provided by VOAZ. |
