The Phoenix Trails  -  Construction  -  South Mountain Park
A small crew will stabilize steep trail sections with hardened tread surface built using a technique known as "stone pitching." (See picture at DETAILS.) Most of the rock needed for this work will be prepositioned nearby.
Through a series of weekly events and a few weekend events, volunteers will be have the opportunity to learn an ancient road building technique that we have adapted from its more common use (trails in boggy areas) to frail desert landscapes. Sign in at 19th Ave and Chandler Blvd. Twenty minute or more walk-in. Bring snack for the field; we will have some at the end of work.
7:45AM - Sign-in at trailhead
8:00AM - Walk to work area
11:30 - End of work, return to trailhead for snacks
